BAA threatens to ground flag carrier

By James Quinn and David Millward

(Filed: 14/08/2006)

BAA has threatened to ground British Airways at Heathrow after an extradordinary row erupted between the airline and the airports operator.
The spat, over the reasons for delays at the London airport following last Thursday's terror alert, led BAA to remind all airlines they could be banned from flying in and out if they do not stick to its rules. BAA Heathrow chief executive Tony Douglas made the stark warning after BA chief executive Willie Walsh publicly accused the airport of being "unable to provide a robust security search process and baggage operation".

This will do little for market confidence and even less for our tourist industry and the balance of payments impact. :(
