Well presumably you are being led by the nose by the press on this one. Many outside of a nation can confuse the superb support as afforded to England as expectation but it was just blind faith and support. However, I suppose we were all surprised just how appalling they were, even Graham Poll kept up the act- butthe clues were well in evidence in the lead up.

The england players should apologise for their impact on house prices in the nicer parts of surrey and cheshire of course...

Is this because all men want to live next door to a WAG.... :D

Some probably thought so.

I think some people still think of England as a major sporting nation. In football terms we haven't won anything in 40 years, well before many of those watching on Saturday were even born. Maybe the media should apologise for creating cruel false hope amongst a gullible, once great nation.

England's players and their wives are a kind of metaphor for the state of modern Britain. Thick quasi-yobs paid too much to do what basically (in terms of results) amounts to nothing, dismally unable to compete on the world stage, bedevilled with a delusional sense of their own "superiority" by dint of being English. Their vacuous, brainless, no-talent wives are famous for being famous and for spending money like water, their prima donna outbursts being lapped up by celeb worshipping drooling imbeciles.

The PC lunatics that have dragged this country down talk of "deferred success". That's pretty much what we got on Saturday.

The rest of the world calls it losing and is not impressed.

I think a lot of this comes down to appearance. Sven was a bit of a mystery. With his strange glasses, thoughtful manner and liking for playing around he certainly came across as both a curiousity, and a bit of a lad. In reality, he has shown to be a third rate and very poor football manager, and just another con man.

My doubts set in years ago when he started substituting the whole England team at half time in International friendlies. His now, well documented disastrous tactics and team selection have finally proved he was a rubbish manager all along.

In a way I liken him to Blair and Brown. Its always style and manner over substance with these two. You have Blair, the international statesman, well groomed, and a voice for every occasion. Just right for the job of Prime Minister. Then there is Brown nose. A dour, not good looking, badly dressed Chancellor. Of course, being Scottish he is thrifty, does not say too much, and sits back in his green seat in the Commons like a well fed pig relaxing in the afternoon sunshine. Perfect!

In reality, these two are confidence tricksters of the worst kind. Just like a pensioner faced with a bogus man from the water board we trust them, help them along whilst they steal our money, and then look back in dismay and think..."how could we have been so stupid?"

Germany took about 6 months to build a team. Sven had six years, and still couldn't do it.

Taking off half the team during a friendly, playing people out of position, different formations for almost every match, an obvious lack of passion (which your average England player is not going to be able to relate to), taking only 4 strikers to WC2006 - it's a miracle he lasted this long.

The FA are idiots.

As much as I find the whole WAGs/salaries/lifestyle thing distasteful, the players we had this year weren't bad, and should have done better. Portugal were rubbish. In this stage of the competition it's clear that many other countries aren't brilliant either. It was a championship for the taking, and England didn't really bother turning up.

ENGLAND - THE INTERNATIONAL EQUIVALENT OF MANCHESTER CITY

Forever harping on about their all too brief '60s heyday and promising that "this is our year".

When it fails to be so, all they can do is blame the ref, the weather, the opposition, and ultimately something to do with Manchester United.

half the team are bloody foreign... not as bad as France though. Good to see Italy winning with the team that at least looked Italian.
