I know what you mean.It was given priority over the deaths of British soldiers. Show you what level this country has sunk to don't you think?

Sky News has also really been dumbed down this year - it is so shallow in its coverage and every three minutes a sponsored hay fever or ski report appears. The best news is Channel 4 by miles.

Mind you, the worst news coverage is American. During the invasion of Afghanistan the coverage fed to the Americans was appalling - particularly when compared to the BBC. One example was a detailed map the BBC showed of the different factions. CNN showed a similar map but with no detail - it might as well have said goodies and baddies.

The significance is that it's the last round number anniversary that anyone who fought will still be alive?

precisely, very good chance that there won't be any veterans next year.

re footy, I quote Bill Shankly :

Someone said 'football is more important than life and death to you' and I said 'Listen, it's more important than that'.

Maybe. But there's only a small handful still alive (perhaps half a dozen?).

Why should the other 60 million of us have to endure the retelling of stories from another age when we had switched on to catch up with the latest goings in the world today.

The few remaining survivors are all well over 100 now. Perhaps it would be more appropriate to celebrate their longevity than dwell on a period of their lives that has long since passed.

Don't get me wrong. History is fascinating and could teach us a lot - but it's not news.

Bit off topic, but just my 2 pence worth.

"News" tends to be specific avents while "issues" are just things that go on for ever but are no less important than news.
