Irish Sentiment Starts To Get A Grip On Reality

Irish consumer sentiment falls in June

Friday, June 30 11:17:50

Irish consumer sentiment weakened in June, new data has shown.
According to the IIB Bank/ESRI Consumer Sentiment Index, consumer sentiment fell to 89.4 in June from 92.3 in May.
David Duffy, ESRI, blamed the decline on the negative view taken by consumers of their economic expectations.
However, consumers' perception of the current environment improved in June, increasing from 103.4 in May to 106.3 in June.
"Consumers have become much more concerned about the outlook for the labour market and the economy over the next 12 months," said Duffy. "At the same time consumers remain concerned about the outlook for their personal financial situation.
Consumers feel that economic news has been negative over the past month, particularly citing higher prices and increasing interest rates

The HPI the Irish have been enduring over the last several years must be worrying? Must be sucking the economy dry leaving little discretionary spending money. Still the same "it can't happen to me" approach to life which I suppose is healthy if not a bit dangerous.
