What Is It About These Forums?

Hi TT

what exactly was the content of your deleted posts ? Were they just bullish, or what ?

My posts aren't being deleted. But I happen to like the banter & randomness of people posting what they want to post where they want to post it. If people don't think it's relevant, don't reply, let it slip off the page. If people think it's particularly rude or in bad taste, report it.

IMO there wouldn't have been the recent uproar if this principle were applied.

I can't see the benefit of chopping & changing posts & post locations unless there is some commercial benefit that I'm not aware of.

EDITED IN: MY POSTS FURTHER DOWN STARTED BEING DELETED WHEN I EXPRESSED MYSELF IN THIS THREAD. I SEEM TO HAVE NO RIGHT TO POST ANYMORE EITHER.

Good. I thought not.

Me too. I loved the pre Aug 2004 "Old Forum". Totally random, yet entertaining and sometimes extremely funny. Literally PML funny. Oh, and informative too, of course !!

The recent uproar started when a couple of long standing posters started bombarding the Main Forum with "get rid of the ads" posts. STF admits he posted dozens himself. And he wasn't the only one. I posted just two threads on ****, and I came back to respond to replies, but they were merged, and then shifted to the "About ****" forum. That didn't even exist yesterday !!

I think the fact is that if someone goes to the trouble and expense of creating a web-based resource, they are going to make it in their image, not yours or mine. This goes for self-styled "freedom fighters" like Consa as much as for owners/mods here. Would you cut your rents because tenants started pissing on the carpet? I don't think so. You would chuck them out and then clean up.

Edited: the "About ****" forum has been there for several months, but it is not visible to guests - hence my mistake. Very clever though. On ****, posts are not deleted, they are just hidden from guests in the "About ****" subforum ! Censorship ? Never.....

I don't think the tenant analogy applies here.

They either want the content WE offer, or they don't.

Well, no analogy is perfect, but I think you get my point. The fact is that WE are on THEIR virtual property, and we either act by their rules, or we go somewhere else. I find the post shifting irritating at times - some of my wittiest posts have been unceremoniously dumped in here, much to my annoyance ! But I just can't see a better way than the current system. IMHO HPC has just about got the balance between unworkable anarchy and "Russia" about right.

Anyway, good to see you posting over here again

I agree, tenants pay to live in a property, you guys get all this for free!

The recent uproar started (and I am happy to say I was involved in it) because the people that own this web site took absolutely no notice of the complaints about the adverts. I posted yet another diatribe about the ads and, all of a sudden, STF and the Chuz started lots of repetitive posts headed 'Get rid of the Google Ads'. I egged them on and replied to them as fast as I could, but, eventually, the mods banned us all and deleted the posts.

Instead of LISTENING to what was being said by people that have been posting here for years - the mods - having banned all 3 of us, removed the PM facility from everyone to try and stop the rebellion spreading. That seems to have led to this site becoming an irrelevance.

Loads of the original posters from here are now over at ************* - which feels much as this forum did when it first started out.

The people running this place should join NuLabour - they like ex Stasi members I believe.

"Russia" = workable tyranny? :blink:

:P No - Russia here means old Soviet Russia, ie. a society where there is no freedom of speech or action. It was a reference to an earlier earlier exchange between myself and TTRTR.

Yes it’s like getting to live in a house for free – but you can not use the toilet –

what is the point without freedom

We are creating content for you for free and you are making money from it. Why antagonise everybody too? Can't you just take the money and be happy?

Have to agree with you here Charles! I think WM's remark was a bit 'hasty' and without thought.

I was just pointing out that the tenant analogy wasn't that accurate.
