The Webmaster Has Spoken To Us

Recommended Posts

After lots of snide comments from you ungrateful curs, the Webmaster has graciously condescended to address concerns about the plethora of adverts smothering and killing the site.

Fair play to him.

Unfortunately, the topic is hidden away in the AboutHousePriceCrash bit. Please seek it out and let the Webmaster have your gratitude.

To avoid going too far off topic - has anyone got any views on the likely future direction of house prices (not stock markets and not gold)?

Fair play to you.

Are the ads the reason why the site now runs so poorly.

I am running a 1.4GHz machine with Windows Xp and this is about the only site where the machine freezes during download and the CPU monitor constantly registers between 60 and 100% usage.

Any ideas anyone?

I have checked for problems using spybot, Mcafee, Ad-aware etc.

A slow and uncomfortable slide down the banister until the newal post is (painfully) hit.

I think we will see a generally confusing picture across the country. Everyone will seize on the bit of news that supports their particular theory. I don't think we will be seeing any large rising trends anymore though, although individual areas might experience that.

What's interesting to me is how much sentiment overall will be affected in the market by a prolonged period of uninspiring growth, at or around the point of being at "official" inflation. Then it stops being seen as a gravy train of easy money, and starts to look much more like what it really is - a huge debt.

I get the same and I'm running 3.1GHz. Internet explorer appears to freeze while the page loads. The time spent frozen increases in line with the length of the thread.

This is the only site I've seen it happen on, not sure when it started, about 6 weeks ago?

exactly the same, for about six weeks or so, multiple pages of threads hang up for ages, I thought I had a virus.

The site becomes almost unusable.

Every other site appears to work OK, on loading an initial high CPU usage spike and then settles to low values.

But HPC hovers in the at near 100% CPU usage for ages.

Anyone out there who knows more and can help please?

I've just done a bit of a test, it freezes until the flash advert on the right hand side loads. Check it out, try moving the scroll bar down, you won't be able to until the ad finishes downloading.

The other ad below it is just a jpeg and doesn't appear to affect anything.

To be honest they could be advertising devices for torturing fluffy bunnies, I'm that addicted to this bloody site I'd probably buy one to help keep it going. <_<

The mind boggles! What a funny lot you are. Some of you took this seriously.

I'm running a twin 3 gig & the site loads fine... hmm people are playing with chocolates to my right as I type, but soooo many ads! I see seven links to ads during this reply... if I dared to scroll there would be more.

It's my understanding that a person has to click on an ad for the website to make any money, so maybe quality rather than quantity may be an answer to this sites funding woes?

Personally I'm thankfull that those grotty flickering casino ads are not on here (yet!!!)

We represent the highest quality of construction available in this area of Southern Spain, we only use the highest specification quality brand names and materials, resulting in a product that is without doubt one of the finest examples available on the market today.

Our Extensive Villa range of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom luxury detached Villas start from 85m2 upwards, giving you the client an extensive range of property designs to choose from, ensuring that you really do receive your dream property in the sun.

This is the crap that now appears in the forums in HPC, one click away from your post. Think about it folks. These people think that the hard of thinking readers will buy in to the biggest property bubble in Europe. Consider the impact that these messages have on first time posters.

I find this site often to be slow and "sticky";putting the security level up to high seems to help a lot.(And cuts out most of the ads!)I'm only on dial-up though.

The ads are doing my head in and even with Firefox this site is much slower. They are all ramping property which would be hilarious if it wasn't so serious.

New owners obviously bought this to make money, but a little more subtlety please! Soon there will be more ads than posts.

It's a shame the site has changed in ways but pretty pathetic to get so stroppy about all this, throw a hissy fit and storm off. Who really gives a toss? HPC is still here, we'd all want to make as much cash as we could if we were in control of it. Rather like piously slating BTL'ers, when, given a time machine, most people here would happily be shafting tenants as we speak.

If you're running NNNorton then uninstall it and use AVG instead. HPC now runs like a proper website for me now. Plus, download 'Adblocker' for your Firefox internet explorer. Not using MMicrosoft InternetExplorer are you? How 1998!

No disrespect to you, but why should people have to change their AV software and browser to get decent access to a site? it's preposterous!

I run a 3.2 P4 Hyper threading Prescott with 2gb RAM and a 256mb graphics card, this site still moves like a snail on sedatives.

The answer is for the people running the site to sort it out, either by better coding or cutting down on the adverts.

If you want to try a similar board for a speed comparison, take a look at *********************, it loads the way this site used to. ;)
