Constructive Advice For Mods/admins

Recommended Posts

I have to say I am finding the new ads a bit much as well.

Google ads is a bit of a pain, but once you get used to them they aren't so bad. It's the flash ads and the long time for pages to open that really irks.

Is there not some sort of comprimise that could be reached to keep the site running more efficiently? Less demanding ads, maybe?

A lot of the ads are so irrelevant to me as well. I have not intentionally clicked on any of them. Cheap music/DVDs might have more of an appeal, if that's any help.

I would have to agree. The google ads are a bit much, and would put off new members (as I have blocked them). A while back, and I intentially click an add so webmaster got a bit of revenue - cause i'm nice like that!

Also, with the blog (as they has been some complaints) it may be a good idea if fubra or webmaster formally mentioned how it should be used, ie to quote the first (and maybe second) paragraph of the article - and not their opinion of the article.

Jason, this is what it says on the new article screen:

(Summarise the article in your own words OR add the first line/paragraph of the source article)

I don't think we can make it more simple than that.

Thanks for checking this thread WM. Any thoughts re: having different ads, i.e. ones that don't slow down the page so much?

Webmaster - What do you think is the advantage in having people summarise a news story over just quoting the first paragraph?

You have to admit there is more spin in the news blog now than the daily mirror - imo, it gives the blog a total lack of credibility.
