Car Crash In Slow Motion

Recommended Posts

Now that theres seems no debate that IR are going up I am shocked at the sheer stupidity of the general public. In my own office there are 2 ftbs looking to buy. Both have huge deposits and accept that rates will rise but are still blindly going ahead with there purchases, not listening to any logic whatsoever. Neither has to move and are quite happily renting.

Its as plain a the nose on your face you can see it coming but the masses dont seem to be able to accept it.

Is there a name for this mass denial?

My own theory is that this mindset is the product of the 1990 mini crash. People saw the market come back from the dead on that occasion and concluded that house prices are able to defy the normal commercial reality. This is why I suspect that the next crash may be of biblical proportions.

I cant be bothered any more

Conversations usually go along lines of this:

Them: "You thinking of buying yet?"

Me: "Yes, once prices fall further"

Them: "House prices wont fall"

Me: "They are doing. They fell 8% in our area in 1st 3 months this year, according to offical figures"

Them: "But prices are going up"

Me: "Not in our area, they're falling"

Them: "But prices wont fall"

Zzzz -
