Trichet Indicated Further Rise In August

Recommended Posts

European Central Bank president Jean-Claude Trichet has given a clear signal that the next interest rate increase is likely to come in August and that future tightening moves will remain moderate, economists said.
Trichet's comments at today's press conference dashed expectations of a July rate increase, leaving Aug 31 -- the next rate setting meeting after the ECB's summer break -- as the most probable date for the next tightening move, they said.
Economists said Trichet's comments indicated the ECB will not speed up the pace of rate hikes and
will likely increase rates by 25 basis points per quarter.

Can Gordon manipulate the CPI to avoid a hike this year?
