New Homes From Hell

Recommended Posts

Reverse Property Porn on ITV2 right now. Newbuild houses are rubbish. Who woulda thunk it?

Edit: An entire estate of new-builds and the owners are claiming that they are haunted? This really says it all about the intelligence of people who buy these newbuild properties.

Nobody else seems to be watching, or commenting on it.

But the latest family can't get their furniture upstairs in a three story town house, so have to have their furniture on the ground floor. They signed a piece of paper acknowledging a problem with getting large furniture upstairs, but say that they "didn't understand it". So, it seems to be the developer's fault.

The way the prices of digital TV boxes are going, you'll be able to buy one for 50p and a few tokens from cereal packets by next year. I presume that they're in the CPI basket.

I have just converted the portable in the kitchen to Free View. I can watch the great Fred Dibnah on UK History ( they should put up a memorial in Bolton for dear old Fred ), all the news channels, and some brilliant films on the extra channels at the same time while browsing HPC.

Back to new builds, a civil engineer told me IHHO that these will become slums after 40 years and their value greatly diminished as they will only be fit for demolition.

It makes you wonder.

When I was listening to the radio as a teenager in the Tory years I recall a programme about the flats built in the 60s. Apparently they had stuffed the walls with straw bales for insulation, but didn't bank on the cockroaches liking this new habitat.

Agree Fred should be made a saint - I knew many real " Freds" when I lived and worked in the North West - he makes me smile - but he was a very clever and skilled engineer - look out for the fantasic drawings in the TV programmes

Dan Cruikshank was talking on television about architecture around the world. He mentioned that many of the high rise apartments in Shanghai (I think) looked like the social housing estates built in the UK in the 60s.

He also showed all the shiny new buildings being built in Dubai. I did start wondering who it is that is going to live in these. Are they going to be secod homes for rich people from around the world?
