Norway hikes rates to fight overheating from oil bounty

By by Pierre-Henry Deshayes

OSLO (AFP) - On the back of strong oil prices, Norway's central bank raised interest rates for the fourth time in less than a year in a bid to prevent the country's oil-rich economy from overheating.
The bank (NASDAQ: TBHS - news) raised both its key interest rates by 0.25 percentage points, bringing the sight deposit rate to 2.75 percent and overnight rate to 4.75 percent.
The increase, the fourth since July 2005, will take effect on Thursday, the bank said.
