BOV raises interest rates

Bank of Valletta has decided to
raise its interest
rates on Maltese lira deposits as well as its loan and overdraft accounts following the decision by the Central Bank of Malta on May 25 to increase the central intervention rate by 0.25 per cent.

Annette Einarsen of Nordea said that although Norges Bank has said it would
increase rates at either May
or June, June is the more likely timing since the Norwegian kroner has strengthened recently.
"If they hike in May it will be a signal that they've decided to move quicker, which will make the NOK even stronger," she said.
