Are We Being Conned?

Recommended Posts

Not being much of an economist, I sometimes whip through Google business to see if there is any good news on the bad news front.

I am constantly bemused that energy suppliers and large companies seem to make high profits once they have increased their prices after having a whinge about the cost of supply to them. I ask wouldn’t this lead to a lucrative habit, with us Joe Public bearing the end cost, and why doesn’t this seem reflect on the inflation figures. In a polite way what I ask is. Is the Englishman be taken for a right pra**t again?

Yep.

And most people never question it.

Gas prices soared recently due to rising wholesale prices. Wholesale prices, I believe, have subsided so where are the price cuts?

Yes we are being conned. The British Gas/Centrica scam is a perfect example.

Centrica owns British Gas and also provides the gas which British Gas sells to its customers. Centrica realises that British Gas can't be seen to be making a profit when prices are soaring so fast, so Centrica cleverly raise the price they sell the gas to British Gas for well in excess of the price they have to pay for the gas. British Gas then sell it to customers at the price they've paid Centrica for it while arguing that the price rises are necessitated by soaring wholesale costs. Well, yes, the wholesale cost is soaring, and British Gas are only increasing charges by the increase in wholesale cost, but when British Gas refer to the 'wholesale cost' they are refering to what they pay Centrica for the gas, not what the gas costs in the first place. The sheeple accept British Gas's excuses and take the charges up the ar5e. Meanwhile, Centrica makes a massive profit. Simple, isn't it? Add an extra link to the supply chain and you can make massive profits while claiming to be making nothing and blaming it on market forces.

The 'price cuts' will be used for lining the pockets of a few select NU LAbour friendly buddy buisness men for some considerable time until there is an uproar, followed by a lengthy public enquiry, then a judgement that yes the utilities are taking the absolute piss, followed by small reductions to keep the sheeple appeased. Meanwhile the NU LAbour friendly con artists retire to count there takings.

God Bless NU LAbour

I’m surprised you have viewed this from a political perspective Randall, although more surprised you have reserved your blanket description of socialist to a further discussion, but I just like to remind you that you omitted to mention we could by for a considerable sum a signed copy from Cherrie Blair.

God Bless Randall

Not "conned", led.

Most sheep will follow.

What the hell has having to pay high prices for gas got to do with being a sheep ?

Sheeple, the most overused word ever used on any forum ever.

Do you have it on a hotkey or a macro for rapid insertion or summat ?

Simple. People are told what they have to pay and they pay it without questioning it. It's time this whole country refused to pay rip-off Britain prices for houses, gas, elcectricity, water, council tax, petrol, etc. If this whole corrupt sham was brought to a stop something would have to be done about it, but we accept what we're told and do as we're told. Sheep. Do what you've always done and you'll get what you've always got.

No they don't, the supplier BG Group is nothing to do with Centrica, it's a different company that is quoted separately. Centrica simply own the rights to use the "British Gas" brand on the domestic level in the UK, they have to buy their gas on the wholesale level the same as everyone else. Transco, the people who pipe things about, is now owned by National Grid company.

If you go to France or Germany you will pay even more for your gas and electric thanks to state monopolies, don't confuse wholesale prices with retail prices. We should actually feel sorry that our companies run on such thin margins compared to people like GDF, who buy gas in cheaper and retail it for even more than UK levels.

Didn’t you know Ethel? It’s when high pressure in the upper atmosphere meets fried frost at ground level. It’s worse than radiation fog that stops planes being late at gatwick.

No I’m not him Randall, and likewise he’ll claim he’s not me. I am a bit like TTRTR’s avatar only with surgical appliances and liver spots, so I’m not beyond attracting a second look from one of Blair’s babes. Without sending a photo that’s as best I can describe myself.

I think so - and not just we Englishers. There's a fascinating discussion with Greg Pallast (not a nut) who thinks that peak oil is part of a ruse to make us think that oil is scarce so that we all pay through the nose. I know, I know, you just get your head around one alternative version of events when another one comes along! He also believes that we went into Iraq in order NOT to get the oil. Click on 'segment' where it says 'listen to segment'.

Agree with him or no, he's always well worth a listen.

greg pallast interview

edit: or you can watch it, of course - as radio addict I forget

Sorry to be so long in replying Randall, or perhaps you would allow me to call you the short version of the name Randy, I had to go and look for my cat she was out ratting.

I have no connection with Patprimer whatsoever, I would not defend the government if I believed they are not acting in my or others interest. How could even I… er er I mean Pat justify Cherrie Blair spending 7 grand on her hair, and two jags having an affair with that girl in glasses. I think the labour government is a disgrace lately and I would apologise for it even by comparison with past Tory governments though I have up until a couple of days ago. They will have to earn my respect from now on. So Ill be watching their every move in future

Best Regards

Pa.. er … er. Foxy

PS

You ain’t that E. Powell are you? whose found sanctuary over on Consa’s site are you? .
