Scottish Power sees profits surge

Britain's fifth biggest energy supplier sees 47 percent rise

Wednesday, May 24, 2006 Posted: 0742 GMT (1542 HKT)

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Higher output and rising margins helped to drive a 47 percent rise in annual profit at Scottish Power Plc, Britain's fifth-biggest energy supplier, while the company warned that bills would rise again.
The Glasgow-based firm said on Wednesday that adjusted pretax profit from continuing businesses rose to 675 million pounds ($1.27 billion) for the year to March 31.
Nine analysts polled by Reuters said Scottish Power was expected to post a pretax, pre-exceptional profit of 655 million pounds.

With some big rises in the pipeline surely this must be a place to invest? There will come a point when Gordon will have to remove power bills from the CPI that's for sure.

Warren Buffet has been puttting money into selected energy companies. In fact he bought the American bit of Scottish Power last year.

I've been following his lead for a while. Eon has been my favourite, though not doing as well lately following their failed acquisition of Scottish Power last year. This acquisistion may be on the cards again I see from the Sunday Times last weekend. So that might also be a good reason to buy Scottish Power shares.

So they put up prices cos they have to meet the increased gas prices? Doesn't sound like it if they manage to make so much profit,.

Which is why it's good to have shares in companies that provide the services you have to have.

At least you'd benefit from this outrageous behaviour in the form of dividends!
