Rain'ard
I think they are letting that java programmer apprentice have another go. I wish they would give him another job, like send him for a left handed screwdriver

Guest Charlie The Tramp
There was a problem but it should be sorted now.
Guest
No it isn't fully sorted because there's an error on this line: function displaybanner () { if(typeof opbanner != "undefined") { var targ = document.getElementById('banner'); opbanner = processInlineStyles(opbanner); targ.innerHTML = opbanner; } else { setTimeout('displaybanner()', 500); } }

I will report your problem to WM

Guest
Thanks, Charlie. I use IE6 as well. However, I have just-in-time-debugging turned on. This comes up every time: --------------------------- Error --------------------------- A Runtime Error has occurred. Do you wish to Debug? Line: 18 Error: 'null' is null or not an object --------------------------- Yes No --------------------------- Edited May 22, 2006 by megaflop

timetopaythepiper
I'm finding the site slow. Has it maybe got something to do with the not so discreet ADS??

shermanator
Just to allay my fears, can someone here please confirm that this site is free of Spyware and Adware? The internet is getting so riddled with this rubbish, which screws up computers, that I'm getting rather paranoid about visiting any sites other than BBC. PMTension
Hi The ads are definitely slowing the site down, not on the main page but on the topic pages - taking ages to load. PMT

No spyware to my knowledge although we will shortly be moving to an ad agency serving ads and they will probably uses cookies to determine which ads you've seen etc. Will look into that though and will update the privacy policy when we go live with this. Catch22
So hating those ads, squashing up the discussion forum. I'm confused. Not difficult, granted. Firefox users , I forgot who recommend this the other day Adblock plusbut it works, if you want to get shut of the ads. That said, loading is still definately slower than before Furba took over. jp1
While were at it.... Ive notived the breadcrumb/links back to discussion at the bottom of the page have been removed. To go back [and please dont say "but you can use 'back' on browser" as its a cached/old version of page with no updates] you have to scroll all way to the top of a page, and its a royal pain in the **** Speaking as a web developer I have to say its lousy usability, and cant see any reason why it's been removed in 1st place Please put it back Thanks
Webmaster
Breadcrumbs are still there.

These ads are better off aligned horizontally as they create a lot of empty space yet squash up the forum.
Boughtin95
The speed of the site is so bad I visit far less than I used to. Judging by how long the threads stay on page one, I'd say others are doing the same. Unless things get back to normal pretty soon. I'm willing to bet HPC will crash and burn long before the proper HPC takes place. I'll be sorry to see the site go under, so much for the promised improvements that commercialism would bring.
