Hospital axes 145 jobs to save cash Press Association - Monday May 22, 2006 3:53 PM

A hospital has announced it is cutting 145 posts to reduce its £11 million deficit.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn, Norfolk, also said it was not filling another 70 posts that currently stand vacant.

Out of the 145 cuts, some contracts will not be renewed and some people will retire.

But the hospital still expects between 65 and 80 full-time equivalent posts to go.

The announcement was made by chief executive Ruth May at the hospital trust's board meeting this afternoon.

The cuts are part of a package designed to save £7.7 million.

A spokesman for the hospital said: "In the current financial year the hospital trust has to find savings of £7.6 million to enable it to achieve its in-year financial balance."
