The decision by Gordon Brown, the chancellor, to appoint a United States-based economist to the body that sets British interest rates has provoked vociferous opposition from the Bank of England hierarchy, the Guardian has learned.

If Gordon appointed him he's bound to be a dove and vote for a cut in next months meeting.

If the other BOE members are up in arms at his being appointed, and he starts voting for cuts, I wonder whether this would then motivate the other members to do the opposite :)
