By JERRY KRONENBERG

Rain continues to fall on the Bay State housing market's parade.

The Massachusetts Association of Realtors reported yesterday that median house prices dropped 0.9 percent year-over-year to $343,500 during the first quarter, as the number of homes on the market hit a new record.
It's the first time since 1993 that prices pulled back on an annualized basis for a quarter as a whole.
In Greater Boston, median house prices dropped 1.3 percent to $459,000 - the first full-quarter pullback in more than nine years. Sales volume likewise fell 1.3 percent.
The slowdown is also hitting Cape Cod especially hard. On the Cape, the number of houses changing hands fell a whopping 19.1 percent from year-ago levels to just 625 sales - the worst quarter in a decade.

May 16--Opinions vary on where the South Florida housing market is headed, but nearly everyone seems to agree on one thing: Buyers are in no hurry.

The number of homes for sale has increased dramatically across South Florida since last year, giving buyers plenty of choices.

California home sales down in April

By Alex Veiga

ASSOCIATED PRESS

1:04 p.m. May 18, 2006

LOS ANGELES – California home
sales declined in April for the seventh consecutive month
compared to year-earlier periods, another sign would-be homebuyers have grown increasingly cautious amid rising mortgage interest rates, a real estate research firm said Thursday.
In all, 47,250 houses and condominiums were sold during the month, down 22.4 percent from a revised 60,900 in April 2005, according to La Jolla-based DataQuick Information Systems.
Sales last month were also down 13.3 percent compared to March.
The decline in sales reflected a profound shift in the market in just the last 12 months
. April 2005's sales were the strongest tracked by DataQuick since 1988, but last month's sale count was the lowest for that month since April 2001, when 42,502 homes were sold.

It is as Al and Ben say: OVER.
