Postcode Map And Addresses Database

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I'm doing some research on my local area, and I'm wondering if anyone here would know where I could get hold of postcode maps for the UK?

I'd also like to get hold of an address database (not names) so that I can see how many houses there are in a particular street, without having to physically go myself and check.

Is the electoral roll something that is accessible to the public. Alternatively is it something the local council might sell?

Cheers :)

Hi cbs7,

I'm not sure exactly what you're after but we have integrated a system to the UK postcode database via a reseller. PostCode Anywhere

Basically it's a .net webservice that we use for address validation but it could return the data you're after. You can enter a postcode and it returns all the numbers/names in that street. You could create a structure to loop through the results and count them I guess?

It's sold on a pay per click basis.

It might be worth a look.

Cheers,

Blondebier

PS. You can also buy the raw data and I think the last time I checked it was about £80k per year? It just depends on how much you're going to use it.

The Ordnance survey have data that maps postcodes to specific areas (I have used the data in the past). I think you can get them in hard copy form. However postcodes do not link up exactly to geographic areas so any maps will have a certain margin of error in them.

Address databases are available but they are not cheap to get hold of in my experience. In both cases my advice is speak to Ordnance survey, they will sell you anything, but can be very very expensive.
