Has anyone else noticed in last couple of weeks that the site is getting much slower, with pages taking ages to load. All seems to have happened since the news ticker was added.

Is HPC geeting more traffic? or do the new owners need to beef up their servers?

It is the news ticker that is slowing the site down, takes ages to load here and I have a 4 meg link, i don't see what value it adds, if people want to see the news they can click on News Blog! It's not a server thing as javascript loads locally on your machine.

Yes, it has been positively painful. A couple of times I have fallen asleep while waiting the 2 hours for a page to download.

Agree, I'm on dial up and contacted Webmaster ref the slowness.

I was going to do a check on Broadband but you have confirmed slowness.

For me it's getting so I don't want to bother.

Pre the upgrade it was really good, I could rip through topics, now it's a pain.

I agree - dump the news ticker - its pretty useless, and page loading is becoming a real pain

Yes, end of last week Webmaster said they had made it faster than initially.

Still slow in comparison with other places I visit and post.

To make a site slower these days is surely rather misguided?

If it ain't broke........

seems ok on firefox, perhaps the news ticker could be an optional feature?

I was using firefox. Maybe it was all those ENDLESS pm's someone keeps sending me.

Yup, atm more cost effective for me.

Sounds as though bb wouldn't be much improvement in this case.

Well I havent noticed the slowdown.

Nor me. 8mb probably helps.

Well, not everyone can be as special as you and Shaker.

Doesn't everybody have 8mb these days?

Seems not. Maybe Winners and Losers should do a poll on the News Ticker to see if it should be removed to facilitate those of us still on dial-up  and bog standard broadband

11 mb here and the pages are loading slowly.

Read it and weep Shaker. I thought EVERYBODY had 11 mb.

Oh, so now a new "class" structure rears it's head.

The hierarchy of the bytes.

Access best for those with more.

There, I suppose all is a microcosm of the the big picture.

I've done one. I've always wanted to have a go at doing a poll, but never had a subject to cover.
