7% Interest Rates By December 2007?

Recommended Posts

Despite all the guff about BOE independence, the government still have plenty of levers for influencing interest rates (not least of which is by redefining it).

Tony doesn't care what interest rates will be in 3 years time since he will be out of it. For Gordon though it is a different matter. The last thing he wants, is rising interest rates during the next election. The best way he can avoid this is to get the interest rate hikes out of the way early. I predict that he will make some deeply unpopular decisions on interest rates if he gets into power next year.

I disagree, low interest rates are just about all Labour ever boast about, despite creating a massive housing imbalance. They will do everything they can to keep things that way.
