Under the rules that replace the scheme, office computers used in part for non-business purposes are treated as a benefit in kind, meaning that employees will have to pay income tax on them, and employers will have to pay national insurance contributions for them as well.

Sounds fair enough to me. Why should some people have tax-free benefits when the rest of us pay in full for everything. It's a bit like allowing the staff to use pool cars for their private use without paying anything for the benefit. Next thing, people will want their free gold bars and diamonds bonuses tax free! ;)

If this happens one side effect willl be that productivity in the UK will go up considerably.

Its madness. I wonder how much this would cost.

££££££££££££££££

There would be all the snooping hours by the government. I guess they will need free access to everyones computers at work?

And the cost to the companies as they will have to go to the effort of restricting peoples computer use. Sounds like unworkable crap to me.

Shit face brown seems addicted to stealth tax.

How the hell would they police it?

I would just ask my employer to rewrite my contract asking me to "keep up with all economic/business news". Then I could be on HPC all day!

I think your "We won, 3-Nil" comment in a previous post gave it away.

Sssshhhh. I know! I know! But keep quiet about it! It'll take the Right Herbert a month to work it out, poor sod.

I don't think we'll hear from him today. He's out canvassing - proudly showing the Union Jack tattooed on the back of his head, knuckle-duster in hand and carefully listening to his mate reading him the Daily Mail.

Guest Charlie The Tramp

I remember an ex customer of mine had hardware keyloggers fitted to all his employee`s machines. When he required redundancies guess who were the first to go.

More unnecessary red tape that will stifle the UK economy.

Exactly. The government hark on about productivity, innovation and education and so on but actually do as much as they can to stiffle it. I don't even think it's intentional, I think they really haven't a clue what they are doing.
