Iran: War By October?

Recommended Posts

Washington's political timetable may turn harsh rhetoric into military escalation, unless voices of restraint in both the United States and Iran can prevail.

Yet another factor in global instability...

Depends... some have been saying that an event like this could have an impact on confidence in the UK. I'm not so sure... I think that might depend on the nature of the UK's involvement in any action there. But the Open Democracy site is excellent and if you want access to a wider picture on those views that tie house prices in with global events it's a great one to look at. :)

About as much chance of a war with Iran as a house price crash in the UK . Great big fat zero IMHO.

Well it would be a shame not to drop in, being as the troops are in the area.

It would be a great excuse to get out of Iraq for a while so as they can get on with their own civil war.

We all must be aware of the yellow pearl

The Yellow Pearl control, attack, attack, attack, attack

Yellow Pearl

And its foolish to venture into strange enchanted places

If they aren't the places you want to be

Attack, attack, attack, attack, attack, attack, attack

Is what we lack

We will arise

We will control

We will command

We will patrol

And its foolish under the guise of love and liberty

That we should capitalize and rob and fell

The poor for the socialistic tree

We will arise

We will control

Attack, attack, attack.

Is what we lack

That's what you lack

We are now living in a situation

Where that self same situation depends on the Yellow Pearl

Attack, attack, attack, attack, attack, attack, attack

Is what we lack

We will arise

They will arise

We will control

They will control

We will command

They shall command

We will patrol

They will patrol

Arise

Yellow Pearl's upon us now

We must fight back

And don't trust in Liberty to save your soul

It is genocide to let liberty lose control

Control

We must decide

Control

We the Yellow Pearl will now control.

I say bomb anyone that helps bring Oil prices down but I don’t think it’s as easy as they made you think on the 9-11 to drop a bomb on GW-Bush as you can bet the air defence is working perfectly to protect him this time.

Bush comes from Texas and his whole family profits from high oil prices and America profits as Oil is only sold in USD$ or PetroDollars and that’s what this is all about.

Russia and China knows what Bush is up to and that’s why they will defend Iran so don’t think it’s going to an easy fight this time.

IMHO, the ongoing war with Islamic groups is more about a clash of cultures than it is about natural resources. This dispute goes back a long way--even before the Ottoman Empire when all of Europe was under threat of a Moslem takeover. Many will remember the film with Chuck Heston, "El Cid," which depicted the attempted takeover of Spain in the medieval period by Moslem groups from North Africa.

Insurgency has been going on for years in the Pacific Region as Moslem groups have tried to wrest power from Western style governments. Indonesia is now the largest Moslem country by population in the world. The bombings of tourist resorts in the Pacifi Region is one of the reasons Australia has been more enthusiastic to join with the UK and US in making a stand.

I really don't believe things have changed much over the centuries. There is fundamental cultural difference between Islam and Western culture whether secular or "religious." The rise of Moslem populations within Western countries has made the situation worse as many groups do not identify with the host culture but cling to their religious roots. This is why the Mullahs can truthfully claim that they can call upon "warriors" in many Western countries to rise up and place bombs in public places such as Tube stations etc. Suitcase "dirty bombs" may be next.

Whatever is next, the threat is what weighs heaviest in people's minds. The inevitablity of conflict is real. The motivation of the Western leaders is to strike before being struck. And they hope that "striking" can be toned down to neutralising but there is no neutral ground in the ongoing culture war. Oil is a side issue IMO the threat to a way of life is central.

A fair analysis RealistBear - are you feeling alright ! :D

I think the oil issue mixes equally with this aswell - a very dangerous mix - but personally, I think the Yanks, will think Iran is a step too far, given their other commitments - Iraq, Afganistan and then Iran - its a huge area to try and control, without the Russias and Chinese being on your side aswell.

I think there will be stalemate, both sides will weigh the risks and think its not worth it

.......... although the Iranian leader does look like the evil one from a James Bond film.

The US will not invade Iran. They will wait about 12 to 18 months. Then they will launch 'surgical' strikes at a series of targets, with a view to putting back the nuclear program 10 years or so. This will of course have an impact on global terrorism against the west. We'd better get use to high energy prices and unstable markets for the forseeable future.

Advice for late 2004/early 2005: Sell all property other than your main home and pay down debt.

Respect to OnlyMe for correctly predicting $70 a barrel further down that thread. imUpNorth should be quiet when the grown ups are talking. :P

Yup, I was wrong about the price of oil, don't mind admitting when i'm wrong. Something that cannot be said of the lunatic fringe on here ! :D

So on the basis that I was wrong about the oil price, I presume it means you are backing that war is an odds on certainty ?

The price of oil has gone back up purely because on the Iran tensions, without the price would fall back quickly is my guess. But we'll only find this out, if tensions ease - my guess is they will, and your guess is ...?

About as much chance of a war with Iraq as a house price crash in the UK.

Fixed!!!! We've read your opinions, and how we laughed...

Note you can more or less subsitute Iraq, for any country that threatens to trade oil in euro's for the next decade.

Can you go into this in a bit more detail. I may be being unfair to Chuck et al, but Hollywood is not renowned for it's accurate reporting. So could you perhaps explain the circumstances of the invasion of Spain from N. Africa.

You seem to suggest that Spain was invaded by the N. Africans because they were Muslim.

What being a super power means (in military terms)

http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0904504.html

Thats right the US equates to 47% of total global military spending. That excludes US defence contractors arming various obediant military groups the world over.

To justify these outgoings a certain Secretary of Defence, will be happy to take high stake risks lest his position be weakened. It's like the council digging the roads up every March to justify next years budget.

I feel they will attack Iran, they learned from the publics waning interest in NASA that if you rest on your laurels your budget gets slashed.

You achieve one goal then go on to achieve a bigger and more impressive goal, if the public lose interest they will vote for a less aggressive/reduced military budget option i.e. the Democrats. And thats just not good for global security is it.

[Think Futurama think Nixons head.

"Quick stab him in the back, NOW whilst he's not looking" = Pre-emptive strikes.

"We will break into homes at night and wreak up the place, RARrrr, RRRAAA." = Special ops in Iran now.

"and sell orphans to zoo's, as meat" = This refers to the world oil markets]

Nixon reminds me of Donald. The all powerful narcissitic meglomaniac that he is.

Dubya is a fundamentalist christian(allegedly),as is blair.

they are following orders by fellow fundamentalist juda/christians to wipe out fundamentalist muslims.

they're still not smart enough to see the winners are the banks and the arms dealers.(watch this space for more surveillance measures in the west!!!!.....if dubya/blair has read scripture properly then the mark of the beast is a tattoo of some kind, but don't rule out microchip implants or shonky passports)

it's gonna happen.....GWB only has 2 years of his prseidency left and basically has carte blanche to do it, as he'll be voted out and replaced by good-time-gal hilary clinton(and sidekick bill...let the good times roll again) at the next election.

the people I feel sorry for is the ones who get vapourised in this war, because a few mentalists have delusions of grandeur.

El Cid

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
It has been suggested that Campeador be merged into this article or section. (Discuss)
Statue of El Cid Campeador in Burgos (Spain)Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar (c. 1044 – July 1099), nicknamed El Cid Campeador, was a Castilian military and political leader in medieval Spain. Born of the Spanish nobility, El Cid was educated in the royal Castilian court and became an important general and administrator, fighting against the Moors in the early Reconquista. Later exiled by King Alfonso VI, El Cid left service in Castile and worked as a mercenary-general for other rulers, both Moor and Christian. Late in life, El Cid captured the Mediterranean coastal city of Valencia, ruling it until his death in 1099.

The Moors, who had moved into Spain:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moors

The Moors were the medieval Muslim inhabitants of al-Andalus (the Iberian Peninsula including the present day Spain and Portugal) and the Maghreb and western Africa, whose culture is often called Moorish. A usual misconception is to relate them to the inhabitants of modern day Mauritania to which they are only related by a history, and therefore ambiguous, name. According to the British Museum, Oxford University and Egyptologist scholar Stanley Lane-Poole, author of "Moors in Spain" Poole proves Moors were African and of Ethiopic and Berber origin (Arabic: السودان) and corrects the previously wrong notion that they were the descendents of slaves of the European Moors who then adopted the customs and language of their former masters.

Hope this helps.

Can anyone explain the difference between a "Fundamentalist Christian" and a "Christian." HOw do Blair and Bush fit either profile?
