On radio 4 tonight Jack Dromey indicated that the knock on job losses from the Peugeot closure be nearer 10,000. Someone also pointed out that red tape and taxes in eastern Europe are a fraction of those in the UK.

I wonder if East European GP's earn £1/4m p.a. for a two hour consulting slot five nights a week. I also wonder if the patients then have to pay over the odds for their prescriptions.

Having lost us another 10,000 proper jobs with high taxes and red tape, doubtless our glorious government can now turn their attention back to the bigger issues

I wonder if UK GPs earn 1/4 mil/year Mr Vitriol. I know I don't. Get your facts right before you spew your misinformation onto the web! Maybe look further than the Sun for your 'news'.

Don't worry - they can all sell us loans! (well that's the kind of service sector slant KingOfKnowhere put on it today anyway). To$$er.

I would be upset if docs really got 250Kpa. No disrespect but that's a LOT.

However if they did, I'd sooner have the docs than some of the stuff we pay for.

Wasn't it widely reported today that some do?

How about the BBC ;) ...........

The salary figures come from an annual survey by the Association of Independent Specialist Medical Accountants due out later this month.

They suggest the average annual income for GPs could rise to £120,000 before tax.

But the figures also give evidence that some GPs are earning up to £250,000.

Yes, it was. Do you believe everything you read in the papers?

I'm a GP, I earn £60000 from my NHS work. Am I overpaid? My defence fees are nearly 4000/year. I do other stuff which takes my salary up though, is that bad?

Not the Sun but the .......................................

BBC

Not vitriol but deep frustration that my tax is being wasted in this way when I cannot even get an NHS dentist!

Errr...dentists and Doctors are totally different. No-one in the UK has any problem accessing a Dr, so what is your beef with Drs exactly. Or is it just a general taxation beef. BTW what amazing job do you do which gives so much to society?

Yes, some do, but this figure will not be from NHS work. It will be from outside stuff. The report has just given a headline figure, it does not represent reality.

For instance, I work as a Police Surgeon and earn quite well from it. However, I am often up all night, which isn't easy. However, jealous people just see the lifestyle, not the work that has gone into it.

I don't think he has a beef with doctors - I think he was trying to draw attention to the dire consequences of normal working men/women who are about to lose their jobs by the 1000 and contrast this with some of the other news today which just so happens to be aren't doctors earning alot. Well bully for them and £60k to most people is massive by the way.

Give an example of an amazing invention of yours that has benefited mankind then.

£60k to most people is massive by the way.

Yes, I agree, it is a lot of money. Not meaning to be melodramatic but if I mess up then peoples' lives can be seriously affected. That is why I earn so much, responsibility.

Listen Dr Strangelove.

Dentists work during the day time. Doctors shimmy off to second jobs between 9 and 5 and then turn up for a couple of hours consulting in the evening.

As for your other point, I have answered your question.

OK, resorting to insults now you have lost the argument. Sill haven't told us about your great contribution to humankind. BTW you are totally wrong about how Drs spend their day. I know, I am one, you obviously are not.

Your right, I am not a doctor. I have to say though I am getting a bit suspicious about you as well. Doctors are supposed to be smart.

I too have some responsible roles;

1. Daytime Primary school teacher

2. 2nd job - teaching/mentoring disaffected youngsters and young offenders to try and give them goals in life and the feeling that someone gives a sh1t about them.

3. To provide for my own 4 children and keep a roof over our heads with the princely combined earnings between the 2 roles of £39k pa. (I am contracted to work 59 hrs per week for this)

I see my roles as pretty crucial - the next generation and all that. If I do my jobs well you'll have less patients to "seriously affect".

Anyway the point is - 10,000 people! Not are doctors worth the money.

It is you're not your! I'm a bit suspicious about your claims to be a mankind saving inventor. I think you are just a bitter twisted saddo. Didn't your younger brother come on here a few months back and admonish you for spending too much time on the internet and not cleaning your room?

Was it this thread?

It was only a handful of doctors that were said to earn 250k.The average was 100k,which means some earn somewhat less.

Up until recently there was a crisis within the NHS regarding recruitment of GPs. The new contract may have gone some way to help, but I still wouldn't fancy it.

Look what you get for your 100k

The highest level of divorce of any profession.

One of the highest levels of alcoholism (pub landlords beat them)

The highest level of attempted suicide.

The second highest succesful suicide rate (Pharmacists first.Ha!!)

Drug addiction higher than the normal population.

Assault at work higher than the normal population.

I wouldn't do it for 100k pa. It is the only profession that I would try to talk my children out of.

If you sacked all the useless PCT managers you could afford to pay every GP 250k (and improve their working conditions at the same time)

I still wouldn't do it.

Cheers mate.

It's not that bad(or well paid) I really enjoy my job, that is why I do it.
