2300 Jobs To Go At Peugeot Coventry

Recommended Posts

Guest Charlie The Tramp

BBC News was interviewing a woman at the factory gates. She said they had bought a house a couple of years ago and it would be going on the market tomorrow and others who work there will be doing the same she claimed.

This is very sad, really.

Just at the time we needed to down-cost, compete and start DOING something REAL in this country, we go an ramp house prices up to the moon.

I am coming to the conclusion that HPI is simply BAD for the economy.

When I lived in California I watched the prices ramp in the 1980's until all the jobs left the state and crash--down it all came. Many became "house poor" and had no money to spend on the local economy. Corporations left and moved to cheaper states because they could not afford to pay the levels of wages that people required to pay their sky high mortgages.

It appears that jobs are leaving the UK in ever increasing numbers. Why? High house prices mean that people need high wages and high wages lead to lower profits. Thus companies move jobs out of the high house price area to low price housing areas such as India etc.

What are the benefits to the eocnomy of HPI apart from short term Gordon Brown miracle stuff?

None that I can see.

Well it was either that or people would have to earn their living.

great idea ,dont you realise when prices crash you will be buying houses from people like this poor chap

No. We will be buying houses from BTL muppets and fools who have over indulged on credit.

In every war there are casualties. Some people in this country have it coming to them.

I think the news about Ryton is very sad indeed and deals another blow to the once proud Midlands.
