Moon Real Estate

Recommended Posts

Can't get on the property chain in the UK due to high house prices? If you've missed your opportunity on earth, don't miss out on the moon too...reserve your moon land today! With space travel tourism being potentially offered over the next few years, you may be able to visit your land sooner than you think:

For a cheap shot at 19.95 an acre:

Acre of the Moon

The lunar registry appears to be a bit like the Foxtons of the lunar real estate market offering a range of overpriced locations, with gentrified names.

The Lunar Registry

(Sinus Iridium) $32.00/acre

Sea of Rains

(Mare Imbrium) $28.95/acre

The Eastern Sea

(Mare Orientale) $30.00/acre

Sea of Clouds

(Mare Nubium) $29.95/acre

My questions are:

Who legally owns the moon? (US government?)

How can they list bays when there is no water on the moon (or am I wrong here?) and,

How do these guys get away with it?

I believe the moon technically belongs to the USA as they planted the flag first, I heard there was some sort of international treaty where it was agreed that the planets moons etc belonged to everyone but naturally America didn't sign it.

Interesting to see the higher price for land in the Sea of Tranquillity (must be due to a certain Mr Armstrong taking a short constitutional there back in 1969).

I remember watching a program on this. Bascially some guy made a claim that he owns the moon, and has to clear it with other countries to see if they object, of which he did. They didn't object, infact they didn't reply.

To make it look even better he gave some land away free to president Clinton...

And now he runs a website selling acres.

If there were ever occupation on the moon by any country, i'm sure this chap will be pushed aside without a seconds thought!

Edit: Here's a website about it: http://usa.lunarregistry.com/info/embassy.shtml

There is some treaty which prevents any country declaring ownership of an celestial body. However, the treaty "overlooked" companies declaring ownership - so this chap has done so, not just of the moon, but of just about every object within & outwith the solar system.

I imagine the deeds are not worth the paper they are written on, nice to hang on the wall, but useless. It will come down to who settles the relevent area first. The only disappointing thing is that when we start settling there will be no natives to genocide.

Leave my horn out of this.:huh:

If only it was that simple, perhaps you should go for a more subtle, classier avatar? I am a 1970 taurus. Taurus Dog. You?
