Campaign

Why dont people in UK start a campaign pressurising governement to force builders to increase production for the beleagured FTB? FTB's are at lowest rate for decades and affordabilty is dire ,i beleive the building companies control a lot of land suitable for building new houses, government could force through a large increase in house prodcution and this would have knock on effect of lowering prices in wider market through excess supply.Once government/opposition feels theres votes to be had then they will act but a strong lobby is required.

a) We need someone to manage it all

b ) The governments don't care (I wrote a letter to my MP and the reply was what I expected, Shared Ownership etc)

c) The governments don't care (oops already said that!)

I've got a better idea. Why not campaign for the treasury to remove tax relief on the interest paid on BTL mortgages. It should be quite easy, just set up an on-line pertition and get people to sign it. I bet grabber Brown wouldn't need too much persuaiding to do this either!!

Have a look at the following website:

http://www.pricedout.org.uk/

I agree that we should be using the potential of HPC and other similar websites to generate more public debunking of the VI's myths, spins and distortions of the truth. The VI's have been getting away with it with impunity for far too long. It's all very well for us on HPC to educate each other but there is a danger that it all remains as just 'talk' and we end up as just being passive observers of the housing market and the ways in which the VI's manipulate it. Some, here, say that we should (and indeed can only) rely on economic fundamentals sorting the situation out for us. I have always disagreed with this stance as I think it ignores the intertwinning of economic fundamentals and VI generated spin aimed at pushing up house prices. the psychology of spin, attitudes, beliefs and behaviour and the impact on sentiment is crucial in analysing and understanding the market. So is the power/knowledge dynamics of discourse and the way in which 'truth' (in this case about the UK housing market and house prices) is constantly negotiated and achieved rather than being an objective truth created and controlled solely by the natural laws of economic fundamentals. The dominant 'truth' that high/rising house prices are a good thing and that house prices never fall is very powerful. This will change but it won't be just economic fundamentals that create this change. HPC could do a lot more, if it used its team/group potential, to help prepare the ground for a shift in the discourse about house prices to create a new regime of truth about the UK housing market. It's all about getting the arguments and analysis generated on HPC out there and noticed.

We already did (thanks for the link Alfie)!

We'll be launching our agenda soon and one of the key things we will be campaigning for is an increase in supply of new homes. The stats on supply over the last 50 years make dire reading and show just how unresponsive to market forces our housing market is.

people need to embrace the internet to spread the campaign and print off leaflets(to distribute in communities) with the facts etc to generate wider support, everyone tell your granny about it as we all know the politicans are scared sh1tless of the grey vote!

it shouldnt really be that much of a problem to bring about an increased production of affordable housing under a "left wing " and "socialist" "government"
