Finally Did Something About It...

Recommended Posts

Finally got round to putting a small amount of time and money where my mouth is. Went with a group of colleagues to help build a low cost house in Indonesia (where I live at present) under the Habitat for Humanity programme.

It was worthwhile, and a great team building/ bonding exercise.

Not sure if they have chapter in UK - but it is a well designed house building charity. Very much on the co-operative model (the people who have houses built must pay back the material cost over time, to release funds for other houses, and must donate their labour also)

If they do, can very much recommend it, as a way of getting your frustration off your chest (couple of days hard labour is therapeutic) while doing someone else a good turn

and a free holiday in indonesia......

i can see it now. 'hold up with that sawing of that bamboo mate. sit yourself down and have a coconut based cocktail for a minute..'

or, mind your backs....workman passing by with a medium ribeye....

or, can you nip to the hardware store and get us a tin of nails, blue hammerite and 3 more lobster bake.

btw: there is no uk chapter. one was attempted in 1983, but the people from the maldives were note keen on coming to blackpool and fixing the guttering on the stan fletcher bed and breakfast memorial bar.
