Bae To Sell Stake In Airbus

Recommended Posts

Jobs could be lost in UK and moved elsewhere.

Only just been anounced don't have much in the way of detail.

EDIT: Have some more info now...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4885426.stm

Could have huge impacts on unemployment figures.

I also just tried to start a thread on this.

This represents a grave threat to the 135,000 manufacturing jobs that airbus provides in the UK.

This is a nothing story.

Firstly, the British expertise in wing making simply cannot be shipped overseas. Planes, correct me if I am wrong, do not work without wings.

Secondly, as for aero engines for the Airbuses, well, all the airlines who have ordered them with British engines ain't suddenly going to start flying them without engines - ditto above. Rival engine firms simply do not have the capacity to ramp up overnight.

Thirdly, this is all to do with the latest F22 Raptor stealth fighter that the US is developing and which the UK wishes to make under licence for the RAF and Royal Navy. The Yanks are not willing to share sensitive information with BAE, as I understand it, because they fear that the French will get hold of it... So it looks like BAE s having to choose between Europe and the US and sever its French links...

Actually BAE are divesting to make another significant acquisition in the states - most likely L-3 Communications. And there isn't a chance in hell of the F-22 being produced under licence in the UK; it isn't even under discussion.
