Rothwell / Castleford Where Would You Go ?

Recommended Posts

Been to Castleford today to look at the 'Limelight' development by George Wimpey, it's on the back, of the massive Persimmon 'Willow Edge' development, am considering maybe buying there....however, that's not the thust of my question. On the Wimpey bit they have some nice 3 storey 3 bed town houses (Grantham) for £184,500, which I think is a fooking rip off. Wimpey have another developmet in Rothwell, much closer to Leeds and in my eyes a better area than Castleford, the same design (Grantham) is £187,500. does anyone else think there should be a bigger differential between Castleford and Rothwell ?

We are talking same house, same plot size, not much to distinguish between them.

What do you guys think ?

let me guess, you're a 30+ year old who has a house.......Everyone is different, I am choosing to buy a house, get over it ! Incase you hadn't noticed most of the UK is not predicting the Nemesis like house price crash people like you on here seem to be craving. I'm not saying it's going to happen, just why should I sit on my ass and wait for it ? It might never happen to the extremes you guys think it is going to !

i think your some kind of EA or vested interest attempting to post nonsense priced flats as partly acceptable to some (when they are not) and you have used a teacher name to appeal to our sensibilities.

A friend of mine, who is a teacher in Cas bought a three bed semi with a decent garden recently. I think she paid about £100k - cant remember the details but I think I posted something about it on the Yorkshire section. I'd say the newbuilds look expensive on this basis. That being said, I do agree that I'd expect a much bigger differential between Castleford and Rothwell.

Is the area in Rothwell at all 'dodgy'?

theres nothing wrong with the areas. its the prices.

p.s. im selling a 2002 ford focus. i paid £7k. yours for £23k.

interested ?

Given the horrific prices around the country, £187k for a house in Rothwell sounds half reasonable. If you're going to get stuck with negative equity you may as well be stuck somewhere you dont mind staying.

A Ford !!! You must be kidding ! How does 50p and a packet of smarties sound ! You clearly know F all about depreciation if you bought a Ford, their prices drop like stones !

Look mate, My cash, I can buy what I want to buy, I think you'll find the point I am TRYING to make is that the Wimpey stuff in Cas is overpriced and I would expect it to be far less expensive than Rothwell. Because of this I am not buying a Wimpey in Cas, I'm CONSIDERING buying a Persimmon which is £20k cheaper for a larger house !

Simply asking if others thought that Cas should be far cheaper than Rothwell ! Would you like to answer the question or are you going to continue hurling petty insults ?

well it is your money i suppose. i could buy if i wanted to, but id get ripped off thats all.

up until now i thought the only people that thought 200% inflation on a home in 2 years were either financially mad or vested.

this is desperate. not that being house hungry is a crime.

i just dont like to see someone get lumped over the head with a new build shillailli.

At last....a decent friendly post, I was beginning to think you were incapable. Thanks for that.

Yes I am hungry and yes, probably in 2 years I'll kick myslef when it's worth 20% less than I paid for it but...I've rented (sort of, long story) for the last 3 years and watched myself become even more squeezed, I finally think it's time to bite the bullet. The mortgage I will pay will be slightly more than I am paying now in rent (part and part [calm down !]) but I would hate prices to rise (even by only a small amount) and me not have bought.

thats known as the 'lockets' approach. suck it and see.

i thought about doing the same and to hell with neg equity. provided the house is large enough to grow perhaps you could stay your entire life. good or bad.

secure job. its a possibility, but i feel the limits of this boom are now so high and clearly falling. you could stand to lose 1/2 your money in depreciation while sitting in a rising interest rate environment.

kicking yourself is an understatement.

I could go on, but am getting bored.

Also looking on houseprices.co.uk £185k looks like a lot to be paying for a house on Wood Lane.

Rothwell is nice, however, I don't want to live there becaues that is where I work, don't fancy living around the corner from the little dears, was just surprised when I saw Cas was practiclaly same price, expected it to be lower.

Judge :

You may have hit on something there, just looking at your list, the one on Middleton Avenue for £135 looks like what I am after, might just go have a look this week. Not sure about the area that's in though, around South Leeds anything to do with Middleton is a no go, hope the name does not put people off at the other end.

Thanks

dont get stuck there for life. thats all im saying.....

if you sign up at twice the price and the crash accelerates. your trapped.....then the IR reaches 6.5%. then your not only trapped losing capital but also being spanked on the botty like a salavating deputy head upon the cheeks of a young boy.

local hoodies will then catch on and smash your renault 5 amigo car to bits at night and spray crude stick men drawings entitled 'teetch is a spaz' and 'get teetch' on your exterior walls.

when you come back from shopping at roundhay you would have been broken into and all your girly teacher books would be strewn around the local lager park while more hoodies ride around the burning remains of your mortarboard hat and graduation photos.
