Mrs Trickster Is Turning

Recommended Posts

My wife has always been excited by the rise in value of our house since we bought it.

We are considering trying to 'move up the ladder', but the next rung is pretty high. In my course of explaining how much mortgage we could get (max 4x my income) and how interest rates would affect payments, she went quiet for a minute, then said 'God, how can people afford to buy houses'.

I nearly choked on my beer!

It always astounds me that most people don't realise that house prices going up makes the "rungs" further apart and therefore more difficult to go up the ladder. I've even tried explaining this to a guy with a Maths PhD. I think he got it in the end.

Maybe the problem is the price range you're looking at versus your salary & therefore SFA to do with HP's.

(It was last night)

Anyway, it just seems mad that to get an extra reception room and slightly bigger kitchen without compromising anything else, costs at least £60000 more than our house has been valued at.

What happens when you get to the top of the ladder?

You sell to pay for your old aged care.
