Guest growl
Just been listening to the Jeremy Vine show and some woman has been taken to court for libel over trolling another poster on a Yahoo politics forum. Is this the beginining? Lawers must be rubbing their hands with glee.

Is this the beginining? Lawers must be rubbing their hands with glee. Just as well with all that conveyancy (spelling?) business drying up. I like the way Tony pushes woolly laws through that will no doubt keep his wife and her friends in plenty of work interpreting them at the tax payer's expense. music man
Freedom of speach is clearly not for the U.K. or is this further afield?

I think given that a link had been established between the forum suedo name of the victim and his real identity leads me to beleive this *might* have been the right decision. But the mods should have stepped in way before things got this far!
Gundog
I think it will also act as a deterrent to trolls. It might make them think twice before moving from the world of friendly banter an gentle mickey take to downright abusve posts. Such as calling someone a sex offender as this woman did. Freedom of speech does not include libelious statements, some lawyers will be rubbing their hands as there will be some chancers who think they could score some easy cash by accusing someone of libel instead of getting off there arrse and doing a days work. An excellent point about moderators, where were they? Intervention should have happened a whole lot sooner. On the point of woolly laws, there are plenty of existing laws to deal with situations. What is needed is the drive to enforce them, not waste taxpayers money in drawing up fancy legalese to say the same thing but in flowerier rhetoric.
