Minimum Wage Raised By Six Percent

Recommended Posts

Anyone else get a pay rise/cost of living increase this year?

Asda just announced ours, I've not heard exactly what it is but it's usually around 3%. What's different this year is we get half the increase now and the other half in 6 months.

Miles Templeman, director general of the Institute of Directors, said the pay hike would "further erode business competitiveness and damage job creation prospects".

Wow. 30 pence an hour increase. I am sure its going to kill the economy. NOT. Maybe Miles Templeman could take a 100K cut. That would pay for 10 more workers at this level of pay.

Yeah but you could buy a prefab for a quid back then.

A two bed terraced slum cost 75p a week to rent in Stratford East London 1959 complete with mice infestation. :(

30 pence an hour will probably still hire you an unskilled worker in Asia: why would you want to hire one in the UK instead? Well, unless they're an illegal immigrant working for less than minimum wage, I guess.
