Historical Base Rate Data

does anyone know where i could download data for us, uk and other base rates for the last 100 years-

ive had a look on the internet and havnt found the info without have to pay for it- in fact what free websites would people recommend for financial data in general.

historically is the uk base rate generally higher than the us? if so why is this? sorry for the dumb questions im trying to learn about these things
