News From Australia Just Gets Worse

Recommended Posts

AUSTRALIA'S jobs boom is over. Ahead of today's Reserve Bank board meeting and weeks before the introduction of the Howard Government's industrial relations overhaul, an ANZ survey found the number of newspaper job advertisements fell 2 per cent last month, to a weekly average of 19,972 — the worst since April 2003.

The survey follows Bureau of Statistics figures showing there has been virtually no employment growth for six months. Australia's unemployment rate is now 5.3 per cent, compared with the 28-year low of 5 per cent reached mid-last year.
