Blair says UK has taken necessary precautions to combat bird flu
LONDON (AFX) - Britain has taken the necessary measures to prepare for any
outbreak of bird flu, Prime Minister Tony Blair told parliament.
Professor Sir David King, the government's top scientific advisor, yesterday
said the virus "will arrive" here and stay for at least five years. He also
warned that it could become endemic in the country.
Blair told MPs he was "satisfied, in so far as it is possible, that we have
got all the necessary precautions in place".
He also discounted vaccinating birds against the virus, saying this would
mask the disease rather than stop it spreading.

The RCN said earlier that observation under microscopes showed the virus in the process of mutating. If it mutates to the point that it becomes infectious from human to human we will have some serious problems, house prices being among the very least of them (80% drop?).

Some helpful advise:

Preparing for pandemic: know how to bury your dead

Wednesday February 15, 09:50 PM

When burying a body in the backyard, don't put it too close to the septic system. That was one piece of advice offered on Wednesday to a business conference on preparing for a potentially lethal bird flu pandemic.
Preparations for a global flu pandemic, which many experts believe is overdue, have begun but the grisly details are horrific and the number of sick could quickly overwhelm the health care system.
Needed supplies of even common medical supplies

French Cat Owners Starting To Abandon Their Pets

Article Date: 01 Mar 2006 - 15:00pm (UK)

The Animal Protection Society in France is concerned that some pet owners are starting to abandon their cats in fear of catching bird flu from them. This is after a bird flu infected dead cat was found in an island off northern Germany. The German cat was infected with the lethal H5N1 bird flu virus strain.
The Animal Protection Society (France) is being inundated with calls from cat owners, wondering what to do with their pets.
A spokesman for the society said the panic has started.

You are determined to help the gov make something out of this aren't you?

Why don't you give folk the real story and let them read www.theranger.co.uk

You know, that's the one we chatted about the other day - The one that says it's not endemic in the wild bird population but the one that's derived from intensive farm rearing - you remember that don't you?

I wish you were correct but:

Wild birds are the source of the disease.
Up to 30 percent of wild water-fowl and 50 percent of crows carry the H5N1 strain of bird flu.
Spring hunting has been banned in the republic. So far there have been no bird flu cases among humans.

"All Precautions" probably involves blaming everyone else for the outbreak.

Set all spindoctors to stun.

Opps, I don't think so.

Look into it a little deeper. I think you will find that there are over 135 strains of HN bird flu and the crows don't have the HN51.

Ask yourself this. Why aren't there dead crows all over the globe?

Why can you query what is in the national press when it comes to house spin but not anything else?

Or are you just jumping on a bandwagon due to your less than enquiring mind?

Do we not have any investigative journalists left in the cotton wool society? or is it simply that it really would not be good for business if it came to light that intensive rearing is against nature.

To be honest, if you were genuinely concerened about your health and that of others you would open your eyes to what is going on around you. What I think is that you, like many others, know that you are taking the route of least resistence by going with the flow. You would have to amend your shopping ways, what you eat etc etc. Far too much trouble for a spoiled adult of today.

Ignore the facts at your peril. While you are watching the birds in the sky you will end up being shot in the backside by corporate greed and your own ignorance.

Bird Flu : Over hyped nonsense

1) by the media to sell newspapers

2) by the government to distract population from the Terrorism and problems in Middle East

3) by the government to give an excuse for the failing economy and imminent global meltdown

4) by the big pharma companies to sell drugs

5) by McDonalds to get market share from KFC :D

Well hopefully .......

I believe you will find that some birds are just carriers of the disease and it does not kill them and so makes the spread of the virus that much more easier.

Some here should get their head out the sand and look to history and then see if they still believe pandemics are some sort of conspiracy theory or search the web and see what our scientists can cook up in a bottle.

Don’t you think it’s strange that GW-Bush has shares in Tamiflue ! Talk about conflict of interest

Blair will be ready, ready to send in the army
