Recession Looming?

Why don't you ask our very our 'cabbie', CABMAN, is his username........

Ahh, but then again he was on here a week or so ago, suggesting that there was no downturn, that prices weren't dropping and perhaps we had it all wrong ........ end result he was verbally abused and castigated, probably never to return again.

The trouble is you only believe what you want to hear !!! and you try and assassinate dissenters. It doesn't make for constructive debate you know.

:D

RIGHT! Do not take this as a personal attack coz it is not!

There is no problem with anyone saying bullish things, and there is nothing wrong with someone having an opposing opinion. But FFS back up your claims with CONSTRUCTIVE arguements (generalisation - not aimed directly at you)!

What you need to understand IUN is that if I were to go on 'Shagging Pig' and said its gone CRASH CRASH CRASH then I would be castigated. This is natural.

If I went on the MUFC Forum (I would sooner lick a turd btw) and spoke about Liverpool over Manchester United (and vice-versa) then I would be castigated.

This site is here discussing all the reason WHY we BELIEVE there will be a crash. It reports all the news GOOD OR BAD. This to me is a fair balance of opinion and unfortunately (for yourself) the majority of people believe there are not 1 but about 5-6 different factors why there will be a crash.

Just ask yourself, why am I here? And then you will realise that if you are soo bullish then 'shagging pig' is more your kind of discussion. As far as TB is concerned, I think you are quite welcome :)

Didn't we have this discussion on here last year and come up with:

Prostitutes

Hairdressers

Car Salesmen

as being the first losers, and so indicators, of a downturn?

I know I said last September that a relation of mine is a car salesman. I asked him how business was and he said it had been terrible for the last 8 months. He actually said "People have so much debt at the minute who can blame them for not wanting to tie themselves up to another 12k of debt."

Maybe the sustained high house prices are giving people a mental "cushion" against the financial struggle quite a few are facing. i.e. "Well utility prices are through the roof, my wages haven't gone up that much, but at least my house is worth 1/4m"?

Well a friend of mine is a prostitute and she told me she was finding it very hard.

A friend of mine is a stripper. Been doing it since, well, a fairly young age :D and now aged early 30's (body looks a few years younger according to the audience surveys) so knows what business was like in the early 1990's.

Anyway, she's still got more work (private bookings) than she can handle but then she's at the upper end in terms of charges and consequently clients. She also owns various businesses (no debt) and from what she's been saying the key thing so far is an increased interest from women wanting to work as strippers. Most of them are apparently needing the cash to repay debts, fund car repairs etc. Most of them are late 20's to early 30's so less than ideal and in her words "totally unprepared for the psychological aspects of working in this industry".

As far as she's concerned, this is a sure sign of a downturn in the economy since it's generally a job of last resort. Location is Sydney.

LOL Hi everyone, yes is the answer i did get a hard time the other day.I was only saying that friends have sold there property, and its good that others are divergent otherwise this forum would be mondane even thou i did feel a little beset, and of course you always get the pc hard men who slag you off as they know you will never meet them, maybe they should join are army lol as if a.

Times at the mo in the taxi trade are ok, we are one of the first to feel it if all looks bad so i will let you know if it changes. In my humble opinion taxis fare should be cheaper we would get more trade, thou since Ken has been Mayor he has put the fares up its out of our hands and we have lost trade since he has done this.

cost of a cab is a unbelievable price now, not all there fault, like everything else they now have much more competition but whereas competition shows cheaper prices elsewhere it dont in a fixed rate buisness it just reduces there take.

i dont know anyone thats made money since xmas in any buisness.everyone is hurting

Lol - Its true the price of cabs is high...

But the price of an IFA giving poor and bias advice is far, far higher :P

My friend is an undertaker and he says work is dead quiet at the moment.

My uncle is a baker and he reckons that that things are at yeast as bad as they were in the last recession.

My cousin wanted to work as a car mechanic but just couldn't get it started.

My sister has just started work as a prostitute and reckons things are going to come to a head soon.

My grandad is a shepherd and thinks everything's gone baaaarmy.

Who is "you" in that sentence? Not me mate, nor a lot of others on here. You constantly banging on about people being slapped down is not constructive debate either, especially because it is not true for a lot of us. I for one am only interested in hearing things that are an attempt to establish the truth of some matter. I don't care what the truth is, I just want to know what it is. Using words like "dissenters" and "assassinate" is just silly.

:P

Ahh, you're making me blush, but yes, I am very, very funny. I can hardly deny it after some cracking gags like that, can I?

OK. Let's not get carried away now - it wasn't THAT funny. It doesn't take much to stroke your ego, does it? :P

My brother is a gynaecologist, and he says things are looking up.

My boss is a surgeon specialising in cancer of the colon and rectum, he said things are **** up!

Cab driver and I got talking about house prices. He says 'if you think there is going to be a recession, just ask us cabbies' - so I did. He said yes, there is. Should we be looking at the coalface for the real story?

That's all very well, but what were his enlightened views on immigration, criminal justice (string 'em up), etc?

:)
