Us Inflation Vs Uk Inflation.

We all know that the UK inflation measure is biased towards the cost of cheap electronics and new cars at the expense of things that are actually going up in price.

My question is how does the US measure of inflation compare to ours. Do they do the same or is it more ballanced and more in line with the real cost of living in the country?

Rent is figured in, but not house prices. Energy prices and I believe healthcareare are not added in. Keep in mind that healthcare is a huge expense in the US.

Short answer is no. US inflation has been terrible over the past few years but this has never showed up in the official statistics. For example, see this article from 2002:
