Taiwan

Recommended Posts

I have read recently from a couple of places (Marc Faber, Ruffer LLP + a couple of other asset mangers) that Taiwan equities look quite cheap right now and could rebound a la Japan 2005. Is it time to fill your boots?

any thoughts?

With China looming over it like a gardener about to tread on an errant woodlouse, I wouldn't see it as a long term play. But in the short to intermediate term it could do very well.

Taiwan - is basically a good tech play ( much better than the nasdaq ).

BUT trust be wait 2 years to buy there by that time we should be in a global recession and you will get a much better price ;)

and a lot of Taiwan production is in mainland china these days.

taiwan will be china by then anyway, but probably with a few more craters in it. Possibly good value if you can stomach the geopolitical risk

I think korea may be a better play.

US can bully north korea a bit more easily than it can china......plus companies like samsung/lg/hynix are already well established over here and have a fair amount of clout.
