Italian Trade Deficit In 2005 Rockets By 850%

Recommended Posts

Italy had a trade deficit of €10.37 billion in 2005, compared with a deficit of €1.22 billion in 2004, unadjusted data shows today.
Italian statistics office, ISTAT, which issued the data, said that the last time Italy had a deficit of this magnitude was 'at least' as far back as the 1980s.
The deterioration of the deficit, an 850% increase compared with 2004, was mainly because of a sharp rise in the cost of importing oil and gas during the year, ISTAT said.

Gordon can always point to Italy and say they are doing worse than the UK and that he still "deserves" to be Prime Minister.

Too right. The only thing worth staying here for is the money.

Why don't you just piss off then and make some space for someone who actually wants to live here?

I've lived in a few countries and the UK has got a lot going for it. The worst thing about the place is so many of its citizens love nothing more than to moan.

That's true. This is the key to the great love and affection the nation has for Victor Meldrew, the world's leading moaner. Without humour we would all be done for.

I'm impressed if Italy's trade deficit is only $10.4Bn for a whole year. They are much better off than we are - our trade deficit hits more than half that every month, doesn't it? Importing energy is going to be THE killer for the UK economy in the next 5 years.
