Tax fraud

A few years ago, people who hid money offshore would be punished in a proportionate way for tax evasion. This offence has now been redefined as 'Tax fraud' and the offence is treated as seriously as drug smuggling. I suspect this is being done to give the treasury an excuse to raid private assets. The criminal justice system seems following the same path as parking fines and speeding cameras.

Legal Tax planning has now become the new Tax Evasion. People who make legitimate tax arrangements are being ambushed by such legislation as IR35, Husband and Wife tax, pension raids etc. By introducing backed dated penalties for legal and honest tax arrangements, Gordon Brown has created a climate where careful planning is useless.

So what is next? Home owners; brace yourselves for windfall taxes.
