My company is heavily associated in providing services for John Charcol. Consequently we were invited as guests to their Mortgage Awards dinner for 2005 on friday evening.

For me, it was an evening of smiling sweetly, drinking heavily and biting my lip through dinner with 300 mortgage brokers and lenders.

I wouldn't be stupid enough to post anything said during the awards or the MD's view of where their company is going, as they are customers and that information is confidential.

Suffice it to say, nothing I heard suggested that there would not be an HPC. I was comforted by their presentation.

When the loud mortgage broker next to me (top performing self employed mortgage broker) found out I lived around Petersfield, he embarked on a ten minute speech on why I should buy now. I smiled, said "wow, I didn't realise the market would take off like that again", etc etc etc. Drunken arguments with customers don't do my job prospects much good.

Later in the evening, he got very drunk. He told me he was having to fill out a tax self assesment. He didn't think he should have to:

"It will only cost the taxman money if i do. I've told them its not worth their while getting me to do it. If I have to fill that out I'll put my 5 buy to let properties on there. ALL of them are losing money at the moment. And they will until the market takes off again in 2007"

Expert mortgage advisers eh?

It's a pity he didn't win an award. I think we should club together and get him a HPC trophy

That's an idea. We should have a competition for EA's in the following categories:

Dumbest

Greediest

Requires viagra

I had the dreadful misfortune of working briefly for a new car dealership in the 1970's when business was bad, really bad (it was at the time of the "Big Crash"--the one that preceded the crash before the "Great Crash" of 1989-96). Each day the sales manager would try to motivate the team by saying how good things were and that they would soon improve and that we just had to get out there and win all the business that is waiting to be grabbed. We all tried to smile and clap our hands as if we were mocking reality. I daresay its the sort of motivational chat VIs are having to give to their people as everything sinks or swims on earning commissions. A HPC means they lose.

Its over, HPC 2006.

Who is the babe in your avatar Mr Blek ??

She looks like she wants me :D

I dunno, found her on the net. I had another avatar that was a bit too pornographic so the mods removed it.
