The Guardian today reports administrators have been called in at QS and Bewise. 125 stores to close, hopes are that most of the 4,500 jobs will be saved..

Odd that these cheap chav places do worse in a downturn, you'd think that they would be more popular as they sell bargain clothes.

Perhaps as people gradually feel poorer, the last thing they want to do is look poorer, so others know they're struggling. Classic 'keeping up appearances' reaction comes into play with further debt taken on to maintain the illusion of wealth, thus exacerbating the initial problem..
