Us December Trade Deficit Widens To $65.7 Billion

might take a few more rate hikes to redress the balance.

Now the US is on the wrong side of the net asset balance, any US rate hikes are going to make their Current Account Deficit worse even as it may make their Trade Deficit better.

I have been thinking about this a lot for the last few years, and I have great difficulty visualising a scenario which doesn't involve a serious fall in the US dollar at some point.
