Volkswagen to cut 20,000 workers

German carmaker Volkswagen will cut 20,000 jobs as part of restructuring plans that are set to run until 2009.

Europe's biggest car firm also reported a preliminary net profit of 1.1bn euros (£752m), topping analyst estimates.

apologies if its been mentioned, but on a smaller scale, I've just heard of another firm in trouble.

' The Jewellery Chain Half Priced Jewellers have gone into administration and they have started closing some of there 70 stores uk wide. As they desperately try to mimimize there expenses while in their hunt for a new buyer. '
