Guest Bart of Darkness
Apologies if this has been covered before but I can't help noticing the premium prices commanded by 1oz Chinese Panda coins, nearly £400 at present. Is it because they can't easily be reproduced?

I'd guess there's a lot less of them than krugerrands, and have more numismatic value Edited February 10, 2006 by bottletop

Is it because they can't easily be reproduced? Pandas are highly collectable owing to their beautiful designs which are changed annually. Krugs are pig ugly and are all the same.(I think). There is also sooo many of them. Collectors like pandas and other coins because the mintage is fairly small and they are, well, collectable! Pandas are also 99.99 pure gold along with Austrian Harmonys and Canadian Maples. There are a few others but I forget which. Stick with anything which gives you the lowest premium over spot, if you are purely investing that is. If you are collecting then older coins may give you better returns. You have to research around the coins a bit.
