One thing, they are living in high-rise flats.

 

Maybe if the UK could create high rise flats that weren't a complete disaster, either socially or with crazy fees, that would be a step forward.

And lease hold. So they are still renter wage slaves, there mortgage spread out over their 99 years just makes their mean rent very low.  Say a 2 bed flat is £99k for a 99 year lease , on a 30 year mortgage.  They are effectively paying £1000 p/a rent long term.  No different for not letting them own a leasehold and them only paying £83.33 pcm rent for 99 years.
