Switzerland can't afford another lockdown (so how can the UK?)

Recommended Posts

Just read this article and thought I'd share for a laugh!!

https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/switzerland-refuses-to-follow-neighbours-into-new-lockdown/46142420

Bottom line, the current Swiss finance minister said Switzerland cannot afford another lockdown.

This is the Switzerland with a debt to GDP of 41%, which is expected to balloon to 51% next year.

Just compare that with the cluster F that is current out of control UK spending!!

The Swiss take things like Democracy, Defence, Food security and Financial prudence seriously. They are fiercely independent and dont do "peer pressure" and dont suffer fools.

They have been the geographical meat in several European wars and have never been fully invaded (although they still argue with one another over the Nepolionic wars).

With no coastline they are one of the countries that we havent shelled! So they quite like the British.

They know that neither they or we can afford it...so guess what, they aint gonna do it. Simples.

They can't afford another lockdown because: they make all their money from sitting on gold bars for a monthly fee..

So doing nothing from home is the same as doing nothing in the office, except that foreigners are paying your salary in the latter case.

May as well keep milking the cow.

Everyone will die there without a lockdown you watch.

Only lockdowns work. They work so well you cant even consider their impact by looking at countries that don't do them.

Remarkable.

Brother on border works in Geneva, lives France. Everyone rigourously applies the rules and very little evidence of what I'd qualify as - "we need to get to Weatherspoons for a last pint" mentality.

In France they just went back into lockdown.

Prior to that most Swiss firms were telling folks stay at home unless essential to office / need to be physically on site.

There are two things that might be meant by being unable to afford a lockdown:

  1. Nominally:  There may be a hard financial constraint preventing payments essential to effect the plan.
  2. Real:  It may be obvious that the collateral damage, that will necessarily arise from the plan, will render the population unable to sustain a sovereign nation.

Option 1 should never be the case for a Soverign with their own currency and their own central bank.  Option 2 seems a plausible consequence - and, if you render - say - half a population incapable of engaging with society (and reality) in the medium-long term... then we're talking about a burden that could take an entire civilisation into a downwards spiral to extinction.  I find it entirely plausible that this could be a consequence of the wanton destruction of civil liberty and economic productivity.  Perhaps this is the cost the Swiss are unwilling to bear?

Shouldn’t this article read “so how can England?”. We’re not on lockdown in Scotland, nor is Wales. Why does gov.uk say cases are rising rapidly across the whole of the UK?! They’re not.

Easy, Sunak is smart and secretly put £100b of printed COVID cash into Bitcoin back in September below, $10k. He already have a return for the UK of 55% and it's just getting started, will be worth £1trillion by Xmas 2021.

+1

Geographically, they are a pig to invade and shell - but that also works in their favor to be a safe haven for despots and blood money of all hues.  Removing Swiss havens, alongside UK and US 'offshore' havens would be the single largest democratic move in the whole of humanity.

Yes - I for one am going to be first in line to walk in and stake my claim to some of the land left over after the Swiss population dies, which will surely happen without a lockdown.  Those fools!

lol, yes we are locking down now so that we can unlock again and enjoy Christmas, but millions could die in December before Santa even arrives.

We should be locking down completely until at least 2025 imo.

"...reports suggest that the Government's controvertial decision to wind down its support schemes in March 2022 will cause widespread poverty and hardship. Campaigners are urging the Chancellor to continue the support indefinitely..."

Switzerland has an enormous amount of private sector debt. More even than the UK.

It's around 250% of GDP, up from 210% ten years ago.

I love the image that brings up we did like going everywhere and any where and testing our new guns. The Opium War that brought down the Chines Empire was an example it wasn't a war - it was a few thousand troops and a few ships that went all that way and shelled Nanking as it was

Lots of parallels to today - very unpopular move over here Gladstone was appalled since we were trading very well with the Chinese and we did it to protect some drug dealers - nothing changes
