Holloway basement flat, with swimming pool!

Recommended Posts

Holloway, one of the grottier bits of north London, mainly famous for two prisons and a traffic-choked arterial road, and now this remarkable piece of real estate!

How to hide your damp problem in plain sight

It's great that the agents listed it at £1m on 27th July and then on the same day immediately realised the folly of underpricing it so badly, and put it straight up to £1.2m ?

The fact that a £1.2m flat is in Band C - when homes worth less than half that are in Band G in some parts of the country tell you why we need a council tax revaluation. In 1991 you probably couldn't have given that flat away.

A new build one bed flat in Barking would be in the same Band C and cost less than £300k.

What an odd location for a tiny swimming pool - and it has a sauna too. Still if you are desperate for a sauna it might suit you - as public saunas may be shut for years thanks to COVID.

To be honest, I would love a sauna, but the pool is a massive waste of time, space and money.

Interesting that in their nicely done up kitchen, they have shitty white goods. Ran out of cash?

You've been taken in by the photo and the shiny finish. That's a very cheap kitchen all round.

I'm not even sure it follows building regulations. The hob is quite close to those shelves. Also, why the heck is the extractor installed above the shelves?

It's very possible that this was a brothel or porn-shooting flat (cf the voyeuristic glass floor overlooking the pool).

My guess would be massage parlour. Right sort of location, just off the Holloway Road. The glass floor room as you point out has the air of a waiting room.

The finish looks glossy in the photos but look a bit closer and all the furniture looks like Ikea or similar type stuff.

I'm told the bottom fell out of the market for that type of sex work and a lot of it shifted online. Looks like this has been hastily converted to a flat to get it shifted. Surely nobody in their right mind would pay £1.2m for that as a residential property though?
