Covid PPE corruption, £billions wasted....

Recommended Posts

I'm reminded of the ferry contract for the company with no ferries.

Clear corruption on ppe procurement contracts. £billions thrown away.

Below post taken from KamikazeChief profile on reddit.

Jo Maugham QC is already taking the Health Secretary Matt Hancock to court regarding a £108 million PPE contract to a pest control company formed only a few months ago with only £18,000 in assets. Since then much more has been uncovered.

We are already pursuing a Government over the £108m PPE contracts it said it entered into with a chocolatier and a supplier of pigeon netting. I know there's only so much of this weirdness you can take but here are two more. First Aventis Solutions Limited.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EcEGoa8XgAEGFL4?format=jpg&name=medium

It's an employment agency with net assets of £322.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EcEHDRHWoAEZhCh?format=jpg&name=medium

You may think it is not the most obvious place from which to purchase £18.5m worth of facemasks (for which contract it was apparently the only bidder). This Government disagrees.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EcEH5wgWAAAw3ve?format=jpg&name=large

But wait, that is nothing. The Government spent a cool quarter of a billion quid buying facemasks from a rather interesting outfit called Ayanda Capital Limited (again it was apparently the only tenderer).

Government does give you the chance to click through and read the contract but (as with every single on I have tried) the link is broken

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EcEJnGNWoAIrp6l?format=jpg&name=large

So what do we know about Ayanda Capital Limited? Well, it is owned by the Horlick family through an entity based in Mauritius, one of the worst tax havens in the world.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EcEKc6IXkAcBpAp?format=jpg&name=medium

Its net assets (in its unaudited accounts) look healthy but are swamped by its intangible assets, which could be anything.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EcEL5yaXYAEzpvu?format=jpg&name=medium

Its website says that it is a "family office" focusing on currency trading, etc. Not an obvious place to buy PPE. (A family office is a rather ugly creature of late capitalism. If you have SOO much money you need a business specially to look after it then...)

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EcENIUIWoAALidP?format=jpg&name=large

This rather interesting man (Andrew Mills) doesn't appear anywhere on Ayanda's website...

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EcEN6umXsAAby-Z?format=jpg&name=large

But his LinkedIn entry describes him as a Senior Board Adviser. Oh, and an Adviser to Liz Truss' Board of Trade (which does contain an Andrew Mills).

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EcEO7bPXQAAvNsz?format=jpg&name=large

And he has a twitter profile which is rather on-brand for the modern Conservative Party.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EcEPVNzXkAAVimZ?format=jpg&name=large

A fair bit of White Lives Matter type stuff with the characteristic sprinkling of support for transphobes. But mostly it is RTing support for Liz Truss

Anyway, as Ayanda Capital's contract is by far the biggest I've seen; and its business lines don't include supplying PPE; and it is owned through an especially grim tax haven; and has links to the Tories, this might be one for journalists to take a look at.

We have litigation in train in respect of the chocolatier and the pest control company. We can probably take on one more - if you'd like to support it.

It's not thrown away. The money hasn't been destroyed. It's just passed from one organisation or person to another. Someone is getting good use out of the £billions.

Major criminal investigation needed i think!

One has to ask why these firms applied for the tenders? There needs to be a new criminal offence of applying for public tenders whilst woefully incapable of supplying the goods.

Though in these cases I am wondering if good old conspiracy to..... would suffice.

They need to use all the new Magnitsky laws, and failing that use the RAF to bomb these private family offices with families and staff inside...

Absolutely shocking... our taxes bunging these unvetted companies that probably don't even make or supply anything! Surely this is criminal is it not? But yes this is blatant, in your face "old fashioned procurement corruption". I despair.

(Apologies if I missed it but has any investigation gone into MP's links to these companies? I have a feeling Scummings will be link ed to at least one)

And how patronising is Hancock.

Didn't take long to get an update:

"....It also emerged that the person who originally approached the government about the deal was a government trade adviser who also advises the board of Ayanda.

But he told the BBC his position played no part in the awarding of the contract."

Seriously...I mean WTAF.

They say places like Italy, Greece, India, the far East, the middle East are corrupt, but this is as bad as anything anywhere, but this is for even bigger (tax payers) money.

What do you expect from a Tory Government?  They'll tie any corruption to the idea of State Spending (if you think it doesn't happen in the private sector, you are smoking crack)

They ran through a Pandemic Simulation 5 years ago and learnt nothing.  Any planning or stockpiling, in advance, would be labelled as 'red tape' and 'unnecessary spending'.

They deliberately run the NHS at 95%+ capacity to introduce chronic shortages and delays - then give a hands up to private providers to introduce the idea of  'private is better'

The NHS has massive buying power, but legislation stops national bargaining, so Trusts have to renegotiate each time for supplies.
